Presentation AT THE PAVIA EST LIBRARY ON MARCH 8, 2025, AT 5:00 PM by NICOLETTA TROTTA
I met Nicoletta Trotta by chance: she was one of the participants in one of my “open” guided tours in Pavia.
While walking, we started chatting, we discovered that we live not far from each other, there was an immediate connection, and as we talked about our activities, I learned that she has worked since the beginning of her career at the "Research Center on the Manuscript Tradition of Modern and Contemporary Authors" at the University of Pavia, and is currently Head of Cultural Heritage Enhancement at the university.
The Manuscript Center is a Pavia-based excellence of international renown, which I have often mentioned to tourists during my guided tours! At the origin of the Center is another remarkable woman, Maria Corti, who was a professor at the University of Pavia and, in the late 1960s, had the idea of creating the Manuscript Fund of 20th-century authors, officially recognized in 1973.
To the autograph papers of Eugenio Montale, those of Carlo Emilio Gadda, Alberto Arbasino, Italo Calvino, Mario Luzi, Luigi Malerba, Alberto Moravia, Natalia Ginzburg, to name just a few, have been added, reaching today a total of about two hundred author collections, containing thousands of handwritten and typewritten pages of literary works, letters, diaries, drawings, and photos.
More than once, I have had the opportunity to visit the fascinating exhibitions curated by Nicoletta, where part of this invaluable material was displayed, which is, of course, also available to scholars.
It is therefore an honor for me to have Nicoletta at the library of my neighborhood, Pavia Est, on MARCH 8, 2025, to present the Archive, but above all its creator, Maria Corti, who was also a novelist. Excerpts from her works will be selected to immerse ourselves in her literary world and appreciate the excellence of a great figure.
On the occasion of Women's Day, our small library will host a significant event dedicated to women, culture, and Pavia.
