The Accordion Museum in Stradella: an unexpected surprise!

Cos'è la pianura padana dalle sei in avanti, una nebbia che sembra di essere dentro a un bicchiere di acqua e anice
eh già

Thus begins one of the best known songs of the great singer Paolo Conte: "The accordion of Stradella". And it is right in the heart of the historic center of the town of Stradella, at the feet of the gentle hills of Oltrepò Pavese, that there is a small but exceptional museum: the Accordion Museum Mariano Dallapé. It was the great songwriter Paolo Conte who inaugurated the museum in May 1999 and still today its rooms retain the memory of the production that made Stradella famous all over the world.

Inside the Museum we go from the history of the accordion, with the first accordion produced by the pioneer Mariano Dallapé in 1871 to the technical section and then end up with the collection of the historical pieces. The first time I went in to prepare a guided tour this museum was an unexpected surprise! Although I am only a bad guitar player, or perhaps for this very reason, I was enchanted by the charm of the accordion and by the stories and events that brought the local production to exceptional levels.

While you visit the museum you will also discover the lives of exceptional people, both among producers and among musicians, as well as many interesting curiosities. Going through the halls of this small but well-equipped museum, you also enter the life of a community that has changed so much since the beginning of the production of accordions

The visit can also continue outside the museum, walking through the town to arrive at the small and suggestive Romanesque church of San Marcello in Montalino, with a splendid view of the surrounding hills. After that the ideal is to end the day with an aperitif with Oltrepò Pavese wines and local salami in one of the bars overlooking the main square!
